The Hong Kong Monetary Authority is the central banking institution of Hong Kong, responsible for maintaining monetary and banking stability. Established in 1993, the HKMA manages the linked exchange rate system between the Hong Kong dollar and the US dollar, supervises authorized banks and deposit-taking companies, and manages Hong Kong's official reserves. It also promotes Hong Kong as an international financial and fintech hub.
